The RHS ALUMNI FOOTBALL CLUB is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to student athletes that have been a part of the Roosevelt High School Football Program.
Today when we are able to see our year-long efforts pay off in the greatest way imaginable: In the form of helping to secure a better future for the young adults and student athletes in this room tonight. As of 2013, since the clubs inception in 1986, we have given 234 scholarships totaling $217,000.
In 2013, the RHS Alumni Football Club awarded seven Richard Hoffeins Scholarship winners on Honors Night. The winners in 2013 were:
- Jacob Bias
- Zach Kasper
- Aaron O’Meara
- Vince Pizzo
- Hunter Schmittou
- Kevin Washington
- Tyler Winters
The RHS Alumni Football Club also gives two Hoffeins Awards with a distinction.
The James Johnston Award is one of them, Vera Johnston (Jims Mother who also turns 101 years young in 2013) and Janice Masserant (Jim’s Sister) started this scholarship when Jim passed a few years back and we are honored that they have allowed us to continue to give this scholarship. This award means so much to those that volunteer tirelessly throughout the community as Jim did. We hope that it means as much to the annual recipient as it does our President, Dan Cusson, who always considered Jim his mentor. Our club volunteers work very hard to carry on the traditions and standards that Jim set forth.
The 2013 recipient of the $1,500.00 James Johnston Scholarship Winner was:
- David Skarzynski
The other award with distinction is the Charles F. Bosman Award. This $1,500 award recognizes the character level of the recipient as more student athletes get distracted with the elements of life it’s sometimes easier to follow the herd. One outstanding young man is recognized for forging his own path and has showing exemplary work ethic and determination not only on the field but in the classroom.
The 2014 Charles Bosman Award Winner was:
- Nathan Sexton with a 4.00 GPA
